Overview Features of the Student Management Module include:
The Student Management Module is accessed by clicking on Course Management in the main Homepage and then pressing Student Mgmt. When you access the Student Management module, the main frame displays the student record information (Figure 1) and the designer frame changes to the Student Mgmt toolbar (Figure 3): ![]() Figure 1 Student Record Information
Notice that there is a mail icon beside each student's name. You can use this icon to send
WebCT Private Mail
to a student. Clicking on
the icon will open the WebCT Private Mail tool in a new window with
the "To" field filled in with the User ID of the student. The Mail
icons will only appear if there is a Private Mail tool added to your WebCT
course. You can add or remove the Private Mail tool from your course homepage by pressing Organize Icons
Notice that there is also an Edit link beneath the title of some columns. You can click on this link to edit the information in a whole column at once. This is to facilitate entering marks for a particular assignment or test, for example. Note that this option is available only for numeric and alphanumeric fields. Text fields and calculated fields are explained in Column Types. Quiz and User ID columns cannot be edited. The bottom frame contains the Student Management toolbar (Figure 3): ![]() Figure 3 Student Management toolbar Columns... takes you to the Column Editor screen, which allows you to rearrange columns, add new columns, and delete existing ones. It will also allow you to change display properties of the columns, such as how the text in the column is aligned, and whether or not the information in the column is available to students. Listing... takes you to the Listing screen, which allows you to select or query subsets of the student list. It also allows you to delete a list of students, move a list of students to and from the Clipboard, and save the student list as an external text file. Students... takes you to a Student Management screen, from which you can add students and edit student records. Settings takes you to a Student Management Settings screen, from which you can set the level of access for your course. Reset clears all of the students from your Student Management database. If you press Reset you will get a warning message asking you to confirm that you do want to delete all of the students in your course. Click OK to proceed with the deletion. Show All displays all of the students in your database. If you have performed a Query or Select in the Listing toolbar then only portions of your entire student database will be displayed in your student listing. Press Show All to make all of the students in your database appear in your listing screen again. The Show All button only appears on your Student Mgmt toolbar when you are viewing a partial student list. If all of your students appear on your listing screen the Select All button disappears. |
