Overview of Course Management

The Course Management area allows you to view a wide variety of information about your course and set certain aspects of it. (The appearance of the course pages themselves is set in the Course Settings area).

You can access the Course Management toolbar (see Figure 1) by clicking on Course Management in your Homepage toolbar.

The following descriptions provide a brief introduction to the various Course Management functions. Click on the hyperlinked function name for more information.

  • Student Management

  • Student Management allows you to view, compile, and edit information about the students in the course. You can add and delete students, view and list students according to certain criteria, and enter information about student grades and other student-related information.

  • Grader Management

  • Grader Management is similar to Student Management but is used to add, delete, and edit information about course graders.

  • Student Tracking

  • Student Tracking allows you to keep track of the progress through the course material by individual students or groups of students. From the Student Tracking toolbar, you can find out which pages, paths, and tools students have used. It gives you the ability to find out which students are keeping up with the course material, and which students are not.

  • Page Tracking

  • Page Tracking allows you to view usage statistics for each of the path pages in the course.  From the Page Tracking toolbar, you can check which course pages have been viewed, and for how long. This gives you a good idea of the progress students are making in the course material.

  • Presentations

  • The Presentation tool allows students to place their own material onto the WebCT server, to make multimedia WWW presentations. From the Presentations toolbar, you can divide the class into groups (manually or automatically), and give each group their own place to put their presentation files.

  • Course Functions

  • The Course Functions feature allows you to create a backup file of your course. This allows you to recreate the course exactly as it was at the time of the backup, in case the course information becomes corrupted. It also allows you to restore the backup file as a new course, creating an exact duplicate of the original course at the time of the back-up.

The Course Functions feature also allows you to reset your course. Resetting completely clears or deletes all of the information in various sections of your course.
